
The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program increases the academic achievement of all magnet students demonstrated through a) improved performanceand exposure to rigorous content; b) reduces, eliminates, or prevents socioeconomic and racial isolation in schools; and c) fosters interaction among students of varying economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds in classroom activities and activities beyond the classroom while amplifying STEAM-related career fields. Targeted instructional emphasis is placed on the study of arts integrated sciences to thematically contextualize classroom pedagogy.
West Clayton Elementary will become a STEAM school. Teachers at West Clayton Elementary will receive professional development and support to help prepare engaging lessons for students. Professional development opportunities will be through GaTech CEISMC, Leonard Bernstein Center- Artful Learning, Discovery Center, Buck Institute for Education, The High Museum, Michael C. Carlos Museum, and TEEMS through Clayton County Public Schools. Students will begin accelerated programs in elementary school to ensure they are ready for high school courses in middle school, putting them on track for Dual Enrollment in high school to assist them in becoming college and career ready. We look forward to welcoming students into the STEAM program beginning the 2024-2025 school year. The application for West Clayton Elementary will open November 1, 2023 and will close on December 1, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
