Message from Principal

Greetings Panther Family,

The news of being appointed the Chief Learning Officer at West Clayton Elementary School is an incredible honor to me and my family. Blessings come in many forms and it is indeed one for me to be the instructional leader of such an awesome learning community. I would like to take the time to introduce myself to the West Clayton community. My professional career spans a 19 year journey in the field of education including such experiences as teaching middle and high school students in the area of Special Education, being a middle school assistant principal as well as an elementary assistant principal for the past three years. All these have prepared me to come to West Clayton with confidence of being here to make a difference in the lives of your children!

As a product of West Clayton Elementary, my life was deeply enhanced by my classroom teachers and other staff members. Not only did they provide a solid foundation, but they motivated me to strive for greatness no matter what my current situation was. My education consists of a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Behavior Disorders, a Specialist and Doctorate in Educational Leadership, all from Clark Atlanta University.

One important element in education is a positive vision of our students to drive our efforts and the courage to build the community that will maximize their potential. Throughout my career, I have learned that high expectations involve believing that others can be successful, telling them so, and praising their accomplishments. With that being said, our theme for the 2017-2018 school year is: One Team, One Vision, One Goal….Building Champions. Students are at the core of our efforts, and letting the student body know that we are there for them provides assurance of our commitment. When we foster a nurturing attitude, high expectations follow.

Lastly, I believe that one of the most important aspects of my work as Principal of West Clayton Elementary is building meaningful relationships with students, families and teachers as well as with community stakeholders. This being said, it will be very important for me to be in the hallways, classrooms, on the playground and in the lunchroom getting to know your child(ren) throughout the year. I have found that kids really appreciate a person who genuinely invests in them by listening, by learning alongside and by being fair and consistent. In addition to building strong relationships with students, families and teachers it will be particularly important for me to make sure that you and your child feel safe and respected at our school. Know that I look forward to getting to know each of you as we work together to ensure that your child/ren are successful at West Clayton Elementary School.

If you ever have a concern, please do not hesitate to call the main office or email me. I believe open communication is very important in a school and for this reason, I will always encourage you reach out to your child’s teacher, to a member of the office staff or to me with any questions you may have.

I am looking forward to a great school year!
